In February of 1989, a
senior at Detroit Lakes (MN) High School decided that a local chapter of The
Professional Car Society, Inc. would be appropriate. Tony Karsnia, then 17 years old
and a two-year member of PCS, set about making telephone calls and writing
letters to see if there was enough interest in the Minnesota area to form the
chapter. Not long afterward, six people got together at a meeting of the North
Dakota Funeral Directors’ Association, signing a petition to form what was to
become the 10th PCS chapter: The
Northland Chapter!
The
first meet was held in June of 1989 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Several enthusiasts
from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Manitoba brought their
professional cars out for a weekend of fun and fellowship. The Northland Chapter
was officially granted a charter by the officers of The Professional Car
Society, Inc. on August 18, 1989 to service PCS members in the above mentioned
states and Canadian province.
Since that time,
we have grown from a dozen members to over 70 members, not only
from the established territory, but other areas of the United States and Canada.
Wisconsin, a “chapterless” territory, has been “adopted” by the Northlanders.
The club has held many meetings and gatherings over the years, and created
an informative quarterly newsletter,
The Northland Crown Journal.
We are a member of the Minnesota Car Club Association,
which facilitates interaction with other car clubs and participation in a
variety of scheduled activities. An event of which the our club is
especially proud was the hosting of the 1996 PCS International Meet in St. Paul,
Minnesota.
As the computer age has progressed, our club quickly established
an online presence with an informative and educational website. This web site is home to the Northland Photo Archive
Database, an ever growing photo library that is “Preserving the World’s
Professional Car History™.” This is the largest online collection of
professional car photographs and history known to exist. If you have
interesting photographs, please
share with us and the visitors to the Archives!
We
invite your membership! Our club is all about having fun with our special cars,
welcoming new people into the club, and learning from each other while
encouraging the proper restoration, preservation, and display of professional
cars. Check out our Membership
Section for more information on joining.
Keep a close eye on the
Events page, too. Throughout the summer car show season there are
many events where professional cars can be seen and shown.
The officers of the Northland Chapter are here to
serve you. We welcome your comments and questions! |
