views of the Miller-Meteor Cadillac Criterion Ambulance, from the very first
one, through the next three years to the very last one in 1976.

THE VERY FIRST ONE!
This is the one and only 1973 Miller-Meteor Cadillac Criterion Ambulance. In these photos,
courtesy of Dr. Roger D. White, it is brand-new
never been used. After minor
airbrushing to compensate for model year styling changes, many of these same photos were
used to promote the 1974-1976 Criterions.

Notice the orange Plexiglas doors
on the cabinets.
It was, afterall, the 1970s!
The prototype Criterion saw many years of service with Capital City
Ambulance Service of Des Moines, Iowa, before being sold to PCS member Ken Elliott of
Orlando, Florida. Regrettably this magnificent ambulance had become so
rusty it was beyond restoration. Consequently, it was the "victim" of a fire
department extrication drill. Here is the 1973 Criterion at Capital City.

The photo of this interesting blue and silver 75 Criterion
comes to us from the archives of Mr. John Ringhahl, ambulance dealer from Fergus Falls,
Minnesota. Notice the Federal Q siren and the absence of a roof-mounted backboard
compartment. The owner of this ambulance is unknown. |

 |
Also from the archives of John Ringdahl are these photos of a yellow
and white 75 Criterion from Tualatin Valley. Notice how this rig was apparently
intended to fit in a garage with low door clearance; the dual beacons are mounted on the
lower portion of the raised roof and there is no roof-mounted backboard storage. In most
cases, when a Criterion was not equipped with a roof-mounted backboard box, the power
ventilator for the patient compartment was placed on the roof toward the rear of the car.
When the ambulance was equipped with a backboard storage box, the power ventilator was
located in the rear door, just above the window. In this photo, notice the exhaust outlet
louver from the ventilator. |

One of
the more UNUSUAL Criterions Miller-Meteor ever built.
Can you see why? Photos courtesy of Dr. Roger White. |
THE VERY LAST ONE!
Though weve yet to see the actual proof, this is said to be
the LAST Miller-Meteor Criterion built! It is, of course, a 1976 model, and last saw
service in Mount Morris, Illinois. After it was traded in to Foster Coach Sales of
Sterling, IL several years ago, it was sold to an ambulance service owner in Iowa, where
it is currently in storage. (Photos by Jon Wurm).
