ANNUAL NORTHLAND CHAPTER SPRING-FLING WEEKEND MEET

FRIDAY - SUNDAY, MAY 2-4, 2008:

DUST ‘EM OFF and BRING ‘EM OUT!

In conjunction with the Gopher State Buick Club’s Spring Extravaganza Car Show & Swap Meet - the largest one-day show in the Twin Cities area - the Northland Chapter’s Spring Fling offers an opportunity to get those classic cars out of winter storage and show them off during a weekend of fun and fellowship.

The Spring Fling begins at noon on Friday with a Twin Cities Professional Car History Tour, led by Tony Karsnia. Transportation and refreshments will be provided. Learn about former professional car dealers and providers of ambulance and livery service while visiting many locations where these services were provided. If the weather is decent, we can take an evening cruise down to St. Paul’s University Avenue and grab a burger at Porky’s Drive-In. This place always draws a crowd of cruisers in the summer months.

Saturday’s agenda includes a road trip, by popular request, to French Lake Auto Parts in rural Annandale. Being family owned and operated, French Lake caters to the classic car hobbyist with their “part ‘em, don’t crush ‘em” attitude. Whether you’re looking for a special part or just wanting some exercise, acre after acre of old cars are sure to take you down memory lane. In the evening, after we’ve had something to eat, we’ll settle in for a professional car slide show, featuring “The Best of the Bernie DeWinter Collection.”

Sunday…show day! We’ll head over to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds for the Spring Extravaganza Car Show & Swap Meet. Our chapter has an excellent relationship with the folks who spearhead this event; we even have our own judging class and usually get our own “piece of property” on the grass in a prime location at the show. Please show your support by bringing your coach to this event.

There you have it…a nice, easy paced weekend. Plenty to see and do, yet plenty of time to relax over parking lot chatter or a dip in the hotel pool. Attending the meet is easy, really, because all you have to do is make your hotel reservation, let Tony Karsnia know you will be attending, and submit your pre-registration for the Spring Extravaganza Car Show.
